How to make a 3D name illusion
- Type word 1, the one that reads from the front – for example LOVE, or the first of two names.
- Type word 2 with the same number of letters. It reads when you turn the print 90° and look from the right.
- Check both readings with the Front and Side buttons under the preview, then pick a font and letter height.
- Download the STL (or the 2-colour ZIP) and print it base down.

Tips for a clean illusion
- Use a bold font. Block and Bold rounded give thick strokes, so each letter stays solid when it is cut by the other word.
- Pair letters of similar width where you can. M against I works, but the block is thin; M against W or N looks fuller.
- Look straight on. The words read best at eye level, square to the front or side. Photograph it from about a metre away with a longer zoom to keep the letters the same size.
- Contrast helps. A dark base with light letters, or the reverse, makes both words pop. Use the 2-colour ZIP, or pause for a filament change at the base height.
- Mind the bed. The letters run corner to corner, so the model is about as deep as it is wide. Check the size under the preview; lower the letter height or spacing if it is too big.

Frequently asked questions
How does a flip text illusion work?
Each letter pair is the overlap of two shapes: the front letter pushed straight back through the block, and the side letter pushed straight across it. What is left looks like the first letter from the front and like the second letter from the side, because every row of one letter is still covered by the other.
Do both words need the same number of letters?
Yes. Every block carries one letter of each word, so LOVE and EMMA (4 and 4) work, but LOVE and EMILY do not. For names of different lengths, add a symbol such as & or ♥, use a nickname, or pair the name with a word of the same length.
Which letters and symbols can I use?
Capital letters A–Z, the numbers 0–9 and the symbols &, +, # and ♥, up to 10 per word. Lower-case letters are turned into capitals and accents are dropped (É becomes E). Punctuation such as ! and ? is left out: its parts are stacked with an empty gap between them, and that gap would cut straight through the letter it is paired with.
Why does one letter look thin from an angle?
A block is only as wide as its front letter and as deep as its side letter, so a narrow letter such as I paired with a wide M gives a thin slice. It still reads correctly straight on. Bold fonts and letters of similar width give the sturdiest blocks.
What size should I print it?
30–50 mm letters suit a desk or shelf gift. The letters run corner to corner, so the print is about as deep as it is wide: four letters at 40 mm need roughly 160–180 mm each way, which fits a 220 mm bed. The size under the preview shows exactly how much room your words need.
Does it need supports?
Usually not. Print it base down, as it downloads. The flat undersides of letter arms (E, F, T and similar) are short overhangs that most printers handle with good cooling. For letters over 50 mm with long arms, tree supports give cleaner undersides.
