How to make a 3D-printed stencil
- Type a word or upload a bold image. Simple silhouettes produce the cleanest stencil.
- Set the sheet size and thickness. Use a thin sheet for detail or a thicker sheet for repeated use.
- Check the bridges. Inner parts are held by short bars; choose one or two per part and set their width.
- Download the STL and print it flat with no supports.

What can I use this stencil generator for?

How are inner parts kept from falling out?
Parts that would fall out – the middle of an O, the holes in A, B, D, R, 8 – are held by bridges: short straight bars across the opening, like classic stencil lettering. Each inner part gets two bridges (top and bottom) so it does not flex under the brush, or one if you prefer cleaner letters. Widen the bridges for a sturdier stencil; tiny loose specks that are too small to hold are removed and listed under the preview.
Why is my image rejected as too busy?
Every enclosed shape in a stencil needs its own bridge. Photos and detailed drawings can have hundreds, which makes a stencil that falls apart and paints badly. Use a simple silhouette, move the Threshold slider, or make the stencil bigger. Up to 80 inner parts are allowed.
What image works best?
Use a simple high-contrast silhouette with bold shapes. Thin lines, gradients and busy photographs need cleanup before they make a reliable stencil.
What material should I print it in?
PLA works for occasional indoor use. PETG is more flexible and durable for repeated painting or outdoor use. Print flat with the design facing up.
Can I use the stencil for spray painting?
Yes, for ordinary craft and workshop use. Hold the stencil flat and use several light coats. Test the bridge width and paint method on scrap material first.
